Tim Smith
Tim Smith has been a music educator/band director for 40 years where he has taught beginning bands, middle school bands, and high school bands in Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. He has recently retired as the Director of Bands at Zimmerman (MN) High School and Middle School where he led a 6-12 band program of 500 students. He has also taught Music History and Music Appreciation at the College of St. Scholastica for many years, as well as a recognized composer for all levels of school bands from elementary through university/adult community bands. Tim is the music director of the famed Star Of The North Concert Band located in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN. Currently Mr. Smith enjoys his time in retirement spending it with his 6 grandchildren at the lake fishing, composing, playing jazz, and enjoying life.
Mr. Smith holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree, as well as a Master of Music: Trumpet Performance degree from the University of Northern Iowa. Mr. Smith has been selected as a Minnesota Teacher Of The Year in 1995, and as the CMAB Artist Of The Year in 2005 for his composition “The Rising: A Tribute to the Irish Patriots of 1916”. He has been an adjudicator, conductor, clinician, and composer for school bands throughout Minnesota and neighboring states. In addition, he has been performing in Irish Folk Bands, Big Bands, and Dixieland Jazz Bands in the Twin Cities area for many years.
